Your pet's oral hygiene

Thanks to his training with Dr. Dea Bonello and several seminars in dentistry, Dr. Robotti offers a wide range of dental treatments: subgingival hygiene, scaling, dental extractions.

Oral hygiene is important not only for bad breath, but above all to prevent plaque and tartar deposits, which lead to gum loss, bone loss, alveolar instability of teeth, spontaneous tooth loss, and even more importantly, the spread of bacteria by the hematic route throughout the body, but especially in the heart (in human terms, it has been shown that the leading cause of infectious endocarditis is dental abscesses). Babies should be taught to brush their teeth with a toothpaste suitable for animals from an early age. The owner has an important role to play in educating the animal in this respect, and his or her complicity and consistency are essential (brushing must be done every day for it to be effective).

It's not the scaling that makes the teeth fall out. If extractions are necessary, it's because the teeth are damaged and the roots are exposed, which can lead to infection and pulpitis, not to mention pain. Prevent all this with good oral hygiene, from brushing at home every day to regular scaling in the clinic.

Our descaling services

Scaling is done with a little sedation to allow access to the whole mouth, without which it is not possible to open the mouth completely and clean the deeper teeth, the inner side and the interdental spaces. Dentistry tip sheets are available, along with the necessary products.

Our descaling services in Monaco

One block is dedicated to dentistry, with an isoflurane anesthesia machine, a complete monitor for capnometry, oximetry, cardiac tracing and blood pressure, and a complete dental unit: ultrasound generator, motor, air/water syringe, polisher.

During the annual vaccination check-up or conventional visits, the veterinarian may advise on the need for scaling, which requires sedation; as with all surgeries, on the day of scaling the owner is informed of any risks associated with the procedure; the animal is auscultated, weighed, prepared with an intravenous catheter, and a blood test is carried out (if the owner agrees). During the procedure, the animal is intubated to prevent water mixed with bacteria and impurities from the mouth entering the lungs and causing pneumonia. During scaling, the veterinary surgeon checks that there are no damaged teeth that need to be extracted, and then polishes the enamel to remove tartar deposits.

An antibiotic is always administered just before scaling, and an anti-inflammatory afterwards if necessary. The animal is kept warm in the awakening room, under perfusion.
