All you need to do is call Dr Robotti's mobile number, who can be at the clinic very quickly. If this isn't possible, calls are either automatically transferred to the available emergency services, or the doctor directs you to the nearest available clinic.
A supplement is charged for all consultations and procedures outside opening hours; evening and Sunday consultations are 100 euro, 150 at night (midnight to 6am) and on special days such as Christmas, December 31st and January 1st. All emergencies must be paid for at the time of consultation.
No emergency is possible at home; a real emergency requires equipment for X-rays, analysis, ultrasound, surgery, intensive therapy, procedures impossible at home. That's why it's important to call the veterinarian directly, clearly explaining the reason for the call, so as to agree on the need for emergency care. The vet can then immediately understand if surgery is required, and alert his or her team to be ready when the injured animal arrives.
Emergency means that the animal's life is in danger if we don't intervene quickly.
Diarrhoea, cystitis or coughs are not emergencies; acute incoercible vomiting can be an emergency; internal or external parasites are not emergencies.
A pet with cardiomyopathy, or who is being monitored for heart disease and is experiencing respiratory problems, must be seen within a day, so it's an emergency.
The clinic is equipped with an oxygen cage and all the instruments needed to resuscitate an animal in the event of illness; we are equipped for intensive therapy.
Eye diseases can be emergencies; an animal that closes one eye suddenly may have an ulcer and must be consulted quickly; on the other hand, if it has had red eyes for a few days, it is no longer an emergency, but care must be taken not to apply eye drops without consulting the veterinarian.
