Lily of the valley: chewing or ingesting lily of the valley, whether stems, leaves or flowers, can cause poisoning and digestive, cardiac and nervous toxicity in dogs and cats alike.
Symptoms appear within 4 hours:
- The quickest to appear are digestive disorders: vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite.
-A little later, cardiac problems appear: reduced heart rate, rhythm disorders that can be fatal.
-In the event of massive ingestion, the animal may also present neurological symptoms (convulsions).
Lily: This pretty plant should be avoided if you live with a cat: it can cause digestive problems and even fatal kidney damage.
Slug pellets: If ingested, and depending on their composition, slug pellets can cause digestive irritation and even serious neurological disorders (convulsions) in dogs and cats.
Fertilizers: Keep out of reach of cats and dogs, otherwise gastroenteritis may occur if swallowed.
Processionary caterpillars: Don't let your dog or cat get too close to a procession or nest of processionary caterpillars. Their stinging hairs cause skin, oral, eye and even respiratory irritation, which can be severe.
Important: as soon as you discover you've eaten something, don't wait for symptoms to appear, and seek veterinary advice as soon as possible.
What to do:
1_Don't wait and try a home remedy, as this often makes the situation worse.
2_Call your vet or a veterinary emergency service.
3_Indicate the product, quantity and time of ingestion if known.
